About The Area
Passo Giau and Mondeval are among the most scenic and rewarding destinations in the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites. Located between Cortina d’Ampezzo, Selva di Cadore and some of the most iconic peaks of the eastern Dolomites, this region is renowned for its wide-open landscapes, panoramic hiking trails and extraordinary mountain scenery.
Passo Giau is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful mountain passes in Italy. Surrounded by famous peaks such as Nuvolau, Averau, Civetta and Pelmo, it offers breathtaking views in every direction and serves as the gateway to some of the most spectacular hiking routes in the Dolomites.
Beyond the pass lies the vast Mondeval plateau, a unique alpine landscape characterised by rolling meadows, peaceful trails and unforgettable panoramas. A couple of years back, I came across an image of Santa Maddalena, Val di Funes. Well!! This was my first mountain adventure for both hiking and photography, and I was a bit nervous. However, Fed never made me feel that way during the whole trip. A thorough gentleman and a good human being. He was more of a friend than a tour guide. He was very polite and always answered our questions.
